6 Awesome Ways For Kids (and Parents) to Beat The Arizona Heat

Beat the Arizona heat

If you live in Arizona during the summer you already know how the heat can hold you captive. Add in kids and you already know how it feels to be a prisoner in your own home. Add in 100 degrees of misery and you may feel like you will never escape.

Fear not! Even with the blistering summer heat there are some great activities for you to enjoy with your family throughout the valley.

Worried that multiple outings a week will end up costing you an arm and a leg?

Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

You’ll find some fun, cool and budget friendly activities for kids of all ages to enjoy this summer and you can continue to retain your sanity.

Hey, everybody wins!

1. Children’s Museum of Phoenix

If you haven’t been to the Children’s Museum of Phoenix, you need to go. Since 2008 the Children’s Museum has been enriching children from birth to 10 with fun filled activities that range from sensory play for little ones to hands on learning experience for older kids. The renovated Monroe
School building consists of three floors filled with different and equally enriching activities. Upon entering your kids will be drawn to the three story treehouse-like structure of recycled materials. Watch them climb all the way to the top (guided by friendly staff members if you remain grounded) climbing on crates, becoming captain of the flying bathtubs and using their imaginations as they go. Move up a floor or two and you’ll find Ian’s Corner for infants, a play kitchen and grocery store, the famous noodle forest, nooks for reading, tricycle riding, a room dedicated to building forts and an art room where the theme is always changing.

If you don’t want to pay $10 for admission visit the museum on the first Friday of every month after 4pm and everyone gets in for free! Keep up with the website for specials running through summer. Visit them online at http://childrensmuseumofphoenix.org.

2. Play Factory

The Play factory is a fully air conditioned indoor amusement park meant for kids ages 1-12. Locally owned and family operated the Play Factory was established to cater to families looking to escape the warm summer months and successfully wear out kids who are full of energy.

Bring your socks to open play hours that occur Monday – Thursday 9am-8pm, Friday and Saturday 9am-10pm, Sunday 10am-8pm. Call ahead because the Play Factory is the place to have a party. Hours will vary with private party reservations.

Enjoy free wifi while your kids play indoors at the arcade, jump around in inflatable houses, explore sensory play, climb up and down indoor jungle gyms, scale up a challenging yet safe rock wall and use their imaginations with blocks, toys and age appropriate exhibits to dive head first into.

Even better than the play indoors are the summer deals!

Every Friday take advantage of five dollar Fridays where children of all ages receive all day admission for only $5.00! Toddler Tuesdays and Thursdays are specially designed for those four and under who receive $4.50 admission all day! Last but certainly not least is their five after five deal where admission is only $5.00 for all ages after 5pm. Adults are always free!

3. Splash Pads

Splash pads are a great way to cool down on the hottest of days. You can find multiple splash pads throughout the valley, and the best part is they are ALWAYS free. There are different splash and sray pads with features that are fun for everyone. We have listed some of the top splash pads below.

Tempe Beach Park – Tempe Beach Park splash and spray pad is an interactive adventure. Kids can learn about the water cycle through the water features found throughout the 1 acre play place. Adults can watch from picnic tables and grab some lunch at any of the surrounding restaurants on Mill Ave.

There are rock walls, giant slides, bouncy play houses, capture the flag, soft oversized building blocks for stacking and castle making. Not surprisingly throughout Maricopa County lie some of the best public libraries in the state. This is a chance to give the kids the opportunity to catch up on summer reading and they offer great learning experiences for toddlers and up through music classes, wildlife educators, magicians and other special guests that come and go on a weekly basis. Check the library schedule for the month and plan out your fun and FREE day at any of the libraries near you.
