Frequently during the year you will find star studded social activities that bring in big names. Whether it is for the Waste Management Open, Barrett Jackson vintage and luxury car show, five star resorts and spas, relaxing fall, winter and spring temperatures or to attend some of the biggest social events of the season celebrities are spotted throughout Scottsdale and the surrounding Valley almost all year round.

But what about the stars that were born and bred here in the Valley of the Sun?

You’d be surprised at the celebrities from Arizona including musicians, politicians and activists whose roots originate in our sun filled bliss.

So who are these big names? Read along to find out.

Michelle Branch

Remember her? In early 2000 this talented musician had all of us moving to her soft rock-pop anthem “Everywhere.”

Believe it or not Michelle Branch grew up and went to grade through high school in Sedona, Arizona. It should be no surprise to those familiar with Sedona that she attributes a lot of inspiration from the beautiful, serine surroundings she grew up on.

Her most famous albums The Spirit Room and Hotel Paper were some of her biggest accomplishments, but we can look forward to her new album West Coast Time that has been delayed but rumored to hit our ears in the coming fall.

Alice Cooper

Musician and Arizona local Alice Cooper has a huge influence on the Phoenix metropolitan area. He has his hands in the food industry and is frequently featured in parades, fairs, charity events and social gatherings making us adore his local loyalty.

Alice Cooperstown is the Motley Crue front-runner’s pride and joy. Located in downtown Phoenix Cooperstown has an all American, sports bar inspired menu that caters to locals going to a baseball game just around the corner.

He can be found there when he isn’t making guest appearances or touring with the band enjoying Arizona life to the fullest.

Stephenie Meyer

Author of the world famous Twilight series Meyer grew up in Phoenix, Arizona attending Chaparral High School and starting her early career as an English teacher.

You can find some of her Arizona inspiration work in her first book where the characters hail from Arizona themselves and Meyers currently lives in Cave Creek, Arizona with her sons.

Pablo Francisco

Phoenix born Pablo Francisco is a stand-up comedian and frequent comic on Comedy Central and other affiliated comedy channels.

He got his start at the Tempe Improv where he was quickly picked up and featured in shows such as The Tonight Show, Mind of Mencia, FrankTV and The Jay Leno Show.


Francisco is hailed for his impressions he has perfected throughout the years and can be heard impersonating Howard Stern, Keanu Reeves, Jackie Chan, Kermit the Frog, R2D2 and so many more.

David Spade

Saguaro High School Alumni, actor, writer, musician and comedian David Spade was born and raised as a child and young adult in the Valley of the Sun.

He got his start on Saturday Night Live portraying legendary characters which then turned into blockbuster movies like Tommy Boy, Joe Dirt, Black Sheep, Grown Ups and Grown Ups 2.

He was also famous for his role on 8 Simple Rules and Just Shoot Me!

Emma Stone

Born in Scottsdale, Arizona Emma Stone is one of the most famous actresses from Arizona.

She rose to fame after her appearances in Superbad with Jonah Hill and Michael Cera. From there she jumped into the Hollywood limelight in multiple raved films such as Friends with Benefits, Crazy Stupid Love, alongside Andrew Garfield in The Amazing Spider-Man.

She is expected to amaze once again in her role with Bradley Cooper in the new film Aloha that just came out May 29th, 2015.

Dierks Bentley

Country music star Dierks Bentley was born in Phoenix, Arizona in 1975. His early life was spent taking influence from the southwest and bringing it into his country music and bluegrass music.


He is now a high profile celebrity who is best known for his songs “What Was I Thinkin’” “Come a Little Closer” and “Lot a Leavin’ Left to Do.”

He is a CMA award winner, member of the Grand Ol’ Opry and long standing influential musician within the country music community.

Tonto Bar and Grill – Cave Creek

Tonto Bar and Grill is the epitome of southwest décor and design.

Enjoy happy hour specials from 3pm-6pm with $8 martinis, $5 well cocktails, $6 for their famous Tontorita margaritas, $5 glasses of wine and $1 off draft beer.

To accompany your drink(s) of choice, enjoy $5 off select appetizers to keep your belly full while you sip and enjoy the ambiance.

Bink’s Midtown – Phoenix

You’ll find cheap and fancy finger food for special prices at Bink’s Midtown.

Along with drink specials from 2:30pm-6pm you and your friends can get killer specials on drinks and appetizers almost all afternoon long. We highly recommend the go local platter full of locally grown fruits and vegetables form the area making it super fresh and delicious. All beer, wine and select dishes are on special. BLT Steak – Paradise Valley

Located within the JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort & Spa, BLT Steak has one of the best happy hours in the Phoenix metropolitan area.

The outdoor patio is one of the best with bistro lights streaming through the patio creating an intimate setting for happy hour go-ers and hotel customers alike. Enjoy live music and happy hour specials that run from $5-$8. Some of our menu favorites include the Hamachi, steak tartar, chicken fingers, roasted asparagus salad and rib sliders.

With $5 pints and $3 wells it’s a mystery how their low happy hour prices don’t put them out of business!

Culinary Dropout – Scottsdale

Kiddy corner to Scottsdale’s highest praised Fashion Square mall you will find a strip of restaurants that range in variety and price. Culinary Dropout has our favorite happy hour special with bargain bites and refreshing happy hour cocktails.

The gastropub cuisine has discounted fondue, pretzel bites, well drinks, wine and beer that will be an entire crowd pleaser. Monday-Friday 3pm-6pm is when happy hour runs and you can choose from $6 antipasti, cheese plates, pretzels and fondue, chicken meatballs and salmon bruschetta.

Drink specials range from $3 sangria, $5 Janrrito’s Mexican Shandies and $3 mug beer.

House of Tricks – Tempe

Unique seasonal flavors await your happy hour at House of Tricks in Tempe. This one of a kind restaurant will tantalize your taste buds with locally grown, seasonal eats and half price drinks.

The patio is a spectacular spot for early evening spirits with good company.

Tucked away off Mill Ave this almost hole in the wall attracts people of all variety, making it a fun place to hang out and socialize with locals, college students and working professionals alike. We enjoy the grilled shrimp tacos that have a tangy twist of Asian flavors and their vintage twist on crackerjack popcorn for just $3.

Relax with $2 off glasses of wine, $1 off beer and $1 off selected well drinks that are unique and delicious. Drink and food specials run Monday-Saturday 4pm-6pm.

Postino East- Gilbert

You can find more than one Postino location in the Valley, but we like the Gilbert Postino best.

Ever famous for wine and bruschetta, you can choose from a variety of tastes that are explode in your mouth good. Salmon, artichoke, classic or sweet date and goat cheese, salami and apple slices are some other bites you may enjoy.

The best part about Postino happy hour is the fact that it runs from 11am – 5pm every day! Enjoy discounted beer and wine through the day while enjoying the patio ambiance. If the Gilbert location isn’t for you, find their other spots in the Arcadia district and on Central Avenue in Phoenix.
